One of the biggest EXPOs ever, it will have the motto "Better City, Better Life"
Koelnmesse International GmbH will be organizing the German Pavilion at the next world exposition, EXPO 2010 in Shanghai. The Koelnmesse subsidiary, which manages Koelnmesse's international business operations, will be responsible for all the preparations and the on-site management of Germany's participation in the event – the same role it played at EXPO 2005 in Japan. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the company received the contract after winning an EU-wide competition. Working in close cooperation with the Ministry, it will be supporting the development of the basic concept and design, setting up and managing the pavilion, dealing with issues of protocol, and conducting public relations work during the six months EXPO 2010 will be open to the public.
The German Pavilion will align its overall theme with the motto of EXPO 2010, "Better City, Better Life." The World Exposition, which will run from May 1 to October 31, 2010, will be devoted to presenting urban life in the 21st century. In cooperation with governments and companies from all over the world, it will present creative, environmentally friendly urban development projects and help to promote new approaches to social interaction and future styles of living and working.
According to Koelnmesse CEO Herbert Marner, the Koelnmesse Group will bring to the project its vast experience in Asia and its contacts with the relevant sectors. "This is a huge success for us, but also a huge challenge," he said. "We have a close-meshed network of subsidiaries and foreign representatives, with more than 70 employees, in all of the countries of southeast Asia, including one right on the spot in Shanghai. What's more, for a long time now we have been working closely with the relevant sectors in the region in the areas of environmental technology and climate protection through trade fairs such as Entsorga-Enteco and Carbon Expo."
Dirk M. van der Coelen, the Managing Director of Koelnmesse International GmbH, is also looking forward to carrying out the company's commission in Shanghai: "Thanks to our concept and our know-how, we prevailed over a whole series of major trade fair companies. The huge dimensions of this event alone, in the world's most important market, present an extraordinary challenge. That's why we're going to send pretty much the same core team to China that we had in Japan in 2005, reinforced by first-class experts on China."
Koelnmesse International GmbH has accumulated more than 20 years of experience with World Expositions, going back to the 1986 event in Vancouver. The German Pavilion in Aichi in 2005 won the Japanese organizers' first prize after being judged the best and most popular pavilion. In addition to managing Koelnmesse's international business operations, Koelnmesse International GmbH last year also organized around 100 participations by German companies in trade fairs abroad on behalf of the German federal states and government and the German agricultural industry.
